China Cabinet redo

 My helper Snowflake Marie Mouser

Oops got another swan tureen had to move the pink rose one to the side
A friend spotted this great china cabinet at a local antiques mall. I had it delivered and it was an off white. Pink Boy repainted it for me in Annie Sloan white chalk paint no wax and it turned out well. He painted inside a pale pale pink on the back wood panel.
I needed more storage for my growing tureen collection I have 4 swan tureens plus my huge life size one.I think I am finished buying swan tureens. My other obsession is cabbage tureens and rabbit ones. So far no rabbit just a big cabbage one.
I think the china cabinet in the kitchen/family room area makes it cozier and now I can enjoy my tureens and other pretty vintage china.

Swan love and Spring dinner

Friends came by on their way to Florida so what better time than that to do a dinner with a Spring time feel in the mist of Winter? I will take any excuse I can get to hurry Spring along.
After 5 years of searching I finally found my huge Italian pottery swan tureen. I kept missing them when they came up for auction. I gather it was made in the 70's or early 80's by pottery studio Erna in Italy. I just love the look of her.
We bid on it and then in a special ,happy serendipity our friends the ones passing by staying one night on way to Florida passed right by the auction house in Ohio so they brought her to me! I had the smaller version of her that is cracked in the base.
It was meant to be I think. I have named her Cecelia and she is Queen of all my swans and presides over the dining room with swan like grace.
Dreams do come true! I love her.

A rosy dinner for a friend

Even though it is fall I still use my pink china and love to find pink roses and peonies at Whole Foods or Fresh Market. My friend stopped for the night on her way to Florida and I wanted to make her a nice dinner and use my pretty things for her.
I made the floral arrangement by placing strips of clear scotch tape across the container and inserting the flowers in the holes it made. that way it doesn't move around on you. I love to do the flowers.
It is fun to use my monogrammed trivet too. By the time we ate it was dark so I wanted a lot of votive candles on the table. A little bubbly and good friends--what could be better?

This is my new china that is an old Minton pattern called Cockatrice. I have wanted to have it for years and have over the years collected a few pieces here and there. First time I saw it was in one of Carolyn Roehm's entertaining books in green I researched and found out it was Minton and then the quest began for the pink. The pink in good condition is hard to come by.
I just had a birthday and around my birthday I noticed a big set of it for sale on Ebay. I told my husband and he bid and got the big set. The set came from an estate in San Diego and the seller wrote that it looks brand new -- the previous owners never used it!! I use all the things I collect but this is a little miracle to find so much at once at a good price and in brand new condition.
Tonight we are having a lovely couple over for dinner and I get to use my new/old china! I can use it also with about four other patterns I have.I love to mix pieces.

Marie Antoinette has lunch with her dressmaker

Happy Pink Saturday

I am reprising my MA tablescape from about a year ago. I 've been having trouble with the updated blogger especially in loading photos.
This tablescape was inspired by reading about her dressmaker and pretending that the Queen and her dressmaker were out on the grounds of Petit Trianon lunching and discussing dresses,, bird watching with opera glasses and just enjoying the day.

More of my obsession--which one would that be?

I know that is what you are thinking--Which obsession? It would be the china one again. I have identified all the china that I showed you before largely in part to a helpful sales person at Gumps in San Francisco.

These are new china patterns that I just saw on Tumbler. I like them all. How I wish I had a bigger dining room table and more storage. I can see using these for a little fete with my girlfriends or as part of a more formal tea with some friends from work.

I like to think in terms of a tabletop wardrobe- different styles for different moods and occasions. Keeping them mainly in one or two colors allows you to mix and remix or to just add one new element now and then keeping the main patterns the same. We all have to dine and we should do it beautifully. I don't really save my "good china" I use it as often as I can.

China obsession

My post of the other day made me think of some of the china patterns I love and want to begin collecting. the photos are of a French line called Marie Daage and I cant find it in USA. Does anyone know who sells it here? I love the Asian feel to the art on them and of course j'adore the colors!!

I have emailed the company many times no response. If you know a retailer please let me know via the comment section. Merci
