Marie Antoinette cup cakes!!!

I saw these cute cupcakes on Pintrest!! Aren't they really unusual and clever? This is the trouble with looking on  Pintrest you see neat things like this and want to know more!
I wish I knew who made them. I think the top (her body) is made with that modeling clay bakers use. Any one know anything about these. I would love to order some or learn how to make them! What fun although I feel they are probably labor intensive.

Shameless promotion and Marie Antoinette

If Marie Antoinette were alive today she would be wrapping her gifts and sending cards from Paper Nosh. My blogger pal Paulette has the most creative, classy and " Oh so Marie!" store on Etsy. Here is the link:
Since I love to pretend I live in 18th century France these wrapping papers fit right into my fantasy life.
Last Christmas (Pinkmas at my house) I had Paulette make me some MA monogrammed gift wrap.It was so pretty. Now she has come out with  new wrap and tags and pretty invitations too --all Marie related and so elegant. My very pink holiday season will be even prettier using the new wrap and tags on my gifts. I love everything Paulette creates!! I just had to do a post about these new products. I can't wait to wrap gifts this year! Order early she is one busy lady

Rococo White Wednesday

I love rococo details, especially in furniture and walls.
I am joining in today at Faded Charm for White Wednesday
The rococo period is lush and full of rocks, shells, arabesques and curves of all sorts. It is bringing elements of nature into decoration/ ornamentation. The French were masters at it and the Italians.
Everyone needs a little lushness in their life.

Marie Antoinette has lunch with her dressmaker

Happy Pink Saturday
Join Beverly at:
I am reprising my MA tablescape from about a year ago. I 've been having trouble with the updated blogger especially in loading photos.
This tablescape was inspired by reading about her dressmaker and pretending that the Queen and her dressmaker were out on the grounds of Petit Trianon lunching and discussing dresses,, bird watching with opera glasses and just enjoying the day.

French fireplace and the 18th century

Firescreen from Horchow years ago

Chateau de Lille did a post on fireplaces and I thought I would show you mine today. I had to order it from a company in Ca and have it installed when we built our house. I like to pretend I am living in the 18th century and this little part of my living room makes me feel that way!

I love the curves and the romanticism of the furniture and interiors of that era. Marie Antoinette and Madame de Pompadour would feel at home in my living room I think.

Petit Trianon- a private retreat for a Queen

The Petit Trianon was built originally for Louis XIV's mistress Madame de Pompadour ( an interesting, intelligent patron of the arts and wonderful woman) he gave it to her as a gift.

When Louis VI took the throne he gave it to Marie Antoinette as her private refuge- one had to be invited to visit and she had to do the inviting. The building was redone to suit her tastes and the gardens were redone in the very popular (at the time) English style. Marie Antoinette was very much influenced by the writings of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and wanted a more "natural" style. The small wood and papier mache mini theatre where she played shepherdesses and chambermaids survived the Revolution --the perception at the time was it had no value!
You now take a tram ride to reach this area-- this should increase visitors to this pretty house and garden.
When you leave the Petit Trianon you see a path and rolling walkways, a folly, and grotto and finally come upon her farm area-- Le Petit Hameau. More on that soon.

She was criticized for having this private sanctuary and gossips made up many stories about what happen in her private world. This was her escape from all the rigid formality of court life.

Even though it is less formal than Versailles there is still such beauty and attention to detailin the house. Enjoy the little tour of the Petit Trianon a tour of her farm area and gardens to come.
