Munchkin cats...Too Cute

I am in love with this breed of cat called munchkin. They are a newer breed mixing regular cat breeds with the short legged variant and you get a munchkin. I love Persian and Himalayans and they are also munchkin breeds.
I became aware of them watching the Animal Planet show Too Cute-- show about different litters of kittens. Another cat is not in my future right now but when it is I plan on checking the munchkin cats out.
According to what I have read so far, these cats can still climb and are healthy just have short legs.
To find out more you can Google munchkin cats and also breeders can be found in ads in Cat Fancy magazine.

Art of Kimono dressing

Kimono dressing
Gibbs Gardens Japanese Festival is ongoing this and next weekend. It was very cold today when I arrived only 38 degrees up in Ball Ground GA. and they had had a frost!
I have such a love and interest in Japanese culture. I wanted to go see the kimono dressing demo.
The instructor told us many interesting facts about kimono--it mean "something to wear" and it used to be worn by all classes of people. Now most Japanese do not own them or know how to put them on.
It takes two or a very nimble person alone to dress someone in kimono. There are layers and ropes and of course the beautiful obi sash.  Here are a few fun facts I learned:
Kimono come in one size it can be cinched up for shorter people.
The top of the front of the kimono is always put in from the right over toward the heart. When a person dies the kimono is put on them opposite side in the left toward the right arm.
To clean a kimono you take all the stitches out wash by hand and then dry and resew. Most people no longer know how to do this or have the space to do it.
Most kimonos now are made from silk.
Single women wear kimono with longer sleeves--orange one it makes a statement that they are single and looks nicer when dancing.

Kimonos that are more elaborate start at about $1000 and up!
Most modern Japanese wear them only 3 or 4 times a year.
Most people rent them now and sometimes hire someone to put them into it.
When a girl turns 20 in Japan a party is given and she gets to wear a more formal kimono.
A man's kimono is simpler and the obi is not made into anything big. There is also the option to wear a skirt like garment in front or a pant like garment in front. The man in the photo has on a skirt like garment. These are also worn sometimes by young women students. Allows for more movement /activity.
I would love to own one how about you?

Japan Festival at Gibbs Gardens

Gibbs Gardens in Ball Ground GA. is hosting a Japan Festival this weekend in cooperation with the Japanese Consulate in Atlanta. Besides enjoying the Gibbs Japanese garden they will have origami, tea ceremony, Ikebana and calligraphy demonstrations and one of Kimono dressing! The festival is Oct 26 and 27. Here is the link:
There is a fee for the entry to gardens
Several Japanese readers of this blog have stated that I am " Japanese" in my thinking and tastes so I will surely enjoy the festival. Since I have not been to Japan yet( it is on my future travel agenda) this is next best thing..

Dreamy ballet images

Repetto window in Paris. I always go see what tutu is on display

Dream dream dream ballet!
I can dream away hours watching ballet or looking at ballet costumes. I think it would be so fun if you could go on backstage ballet tours to raise money for the ballet. Why doesn't anyone do this? A sneak peak for a fee/donation to the ballet!

Tea at Laduree

We had lunch (for me it was just dessert) at Laduree the first day in Paris. Sorry for the blur I blame it on jet lag.Until we had a nap Pink Boy was tired me too! But it was slightly rainy and cool so we headed off for a light lunch- for me that meant dessert and tea. This is how I like to start my time in Paris.

Love locks on Pont des Arts

The government cut them off they say, but they are back. The love locks endure on the Pont des Arts near the Louvre. There are even some enterprising folks selling simple locks near the bridge in case you forgot yours.
Some nimble lovers even climbed up and put their locks on the lamp post.

The sad thing is the graffiti all over Paris on public and private building and in the metro.I noticed a lot more graffiti all over Paris this visit. Even near our hotel someone climbed up a very high fire escape to deface the apartment building. I think the fines should be stiff and police should look for these miscreants at night when they are active. It is beyond criminal to deface these wonderful historic buildings and mess up the beauty of Paris. The locks are sweet, the graffiti sucks. And I hardly ever use that word!
Close your eyes and picture the beauty of Paris without the graffiti.

Swans in silver

Oh how I love swans in any form.. These stunning silver centerpieces were on Ebay recently. Beyond my price point but so lovely. The single swan is Buccellati silver a fine old silver company.
I saw swans at Versailles a few weeks ago in one of the big ponds there. Quite a few of them and we fed them some bread.
I dream of a swan sleigh gliding over the frozen ice sort of like the scene in Anna Karenina only a much fancier sleigh. If I win lottery I will have one made just for ice sledding What an extravagance that would be!! I am sure Marie Antoinette would have loved one  she did love sledding.

Paris my sweet Paris

 Angelina tea salon at Versailles

 Angelina at Versailles
 Laduree at Versailles
Bonjour dear blog readers! I have been to Paris and am back home now. I had a good time in Paris and will have more photos in upcoming posts.
We enjoyed sampling pastries at a variety of Paris pastry shops. Sorry for the blurred photo. I was unlucky and caught a bad cold in Paris half way through the trip so I could not smell or taste any food!! AARRGH!! All that wonderful food and pastry and chocolate and I could not enjoy it. Pink Boy enjoyed it for me.
I was thrilled to see an Angelina pastry shop with their wonderful hot chocolate at Versailles now inside the chateau. There is also a Laduree there on the ground floor.
I now have bronchitis and have not posted in weeks. Still recovering from that awful cold first one I have had in 18 years!!
