My birthday

 Several pretty old homes I like.

Today is my birthday. I won't tell you which one! I am holding at 39. For my birthday I wanted to go to my favorite tiny city of Madison, GA and have a custard style chocolate ice cream cone at Ricky D's. Ricky D's is new right on the square and so yummy. They also show movies in the back theatre and  sell hot dogs and other fountain foods too.

Pink Boy bought me this big lion's head for the garden. We are both Leo's one week apart so we thought a lion would be nice in the garden.

The cats and dogs saved up and bought me another pretty porcelain tea caddy and a swan!

I had a fun birthday sight seeing around Madison, eating and shopping along the square.Even the street signs in Madison are pretty.

Swans also inspire fashion. Love the wedding dress why didnt they have something like that when I married? I would wear a swan wedding gown maybe even a veil with a feathered band

Swan stuff

 Swan boat made in Italy for sale on EBay

Maybe my swan obsession goes back to riding the swan boats in the Boston Common lake as a child? How I wish I could afford the swan boat I found on Ebay . We have a lake here I could use it! How to get it from CA to Georgia? I would love to take the dogs in it too. They would enjoy a oat ride. I could envision Marie Antoinette in a swan boat at Versailles. The bottom photo is Versailles lake.

Nothing is ever easy but it is fun to think about.

Swan weather vane and tutorial in patina on copper

We have wanted a weather vane for awhile. I think I have wanted one since I saw Mary Poppins as a kid. I remember one on the roof of the weather telling neighbor. 

My ideal weather vane has always been a swan since I am so swan obsessed. It is hard to find a pretty one that is not too abstract or too small.  I found ours online at East Coast Weather Vanes.com. It was on sale so Pink Boy said to order it.

We decided to make it look older to make a patina on it.

Here are the steps to age copper:

We just did the swan not the brass NSEW thing.

Spray with window cleaner leave it wet

Mix distilled vinegar, ammonia and kosher salt in the quart spray bottle. Shake till blended.

Make the spray nozzle a fine mist and spray entire piece evenly. We hung it upside down between the inside of a ladder then we over entire ladder with thin plastic drop cloths sort of tented it. 

Check on it about an hour later it will be  changing some and respray any area you missed.

Wait about 8 hours and check again and install. Do no wipe it or remove any of the greenish powder.

Etheral swan egg art

This little egg art made from a real egg (goose maybe or duck) and resembling a swan is so sweet. I saw it on my holiday in California a few weeks ago. Pink Boy knowing how I adore swans my got it for me and we shipped it home. I didn't trust the airlines with it.

The wings fold closed into the body.It is so cute and different. I may use it as centerpiece for a spring table scape.

Swan jewelry

My obsession with swans, and I admit it is an obsession, extends to swan jewelry and head wear, swan down powder puffs, tutus that look like swans, swan boats and sleighs and swan toys and ornaments.

All these wonderful pieces( except the last charm) are on the 1st Dibs web site and all are stunning! 

I just ordered a book about swans and I am seriously thinking of petitioning my subdivision to allow swans on our lake and I could care and tame them. I had tame swans before.

Oh what a wonderful world it is when you have swans and pink and peonies and pastries and ribbons and pets and love in it!!

In my mind swans are linked with ballet and winter and flowers and poetry. I seek out swan things and would love a swan boat to float around our lake ! If I could redo my wedding I would add swan centerpieces and cake decorations. Swans mate for life.
I always wonder what happens to the swan props from movies and ballet productions. I'd love to buy one but where would I put it?
Pondering swans and their beauty is so much a part of my pink life.
