Rococo White Wednesday

I love rococo details, especially in furniture and walls.
I am joining in today at Faded Charm for White Wednesday
The rococo period is lush and full of rocks, shells, arabesques and curves of all sorts. It is bringing elements of nature into decoration/ ornamentation. The French were masters at it and the Italians.
Everyone needs a little lushness in their life.

Pink Saturday

Pink Saturday!
Join Beverly at:
Grab a pink macaron and join in the fun. It is sale time in Paris!
I would head right over to Chantal Thomas lingerie and grab a pretty umbrella and maybe something lace or at least the powder with the pink puff.
Maybe some ballet flats at Repetto? Something sweet at Fauchon?
Paris is always very pink but more so at sale time, don't you agree?

Vote for Good Mews to help win money for the cats

 Souffle-Marie from Good Mews
 Snowflake-Marie From Good Mews
Charlotte Moss she found me one day jumped in my car

Good Mews Needs your vote!

My three girls--all rescued kitties ask you to vote one time in July for Good Mews no kill cat shelter. Your vote could help us win $50,000.00 ! It takes a lot of food, litter, medicine, cleaning supplies and vet fees to shelter 80 plus cats in a clean, happy environment. I volunteer there every week and I know it is well run and not a penny wasted.
The shelter will be moving to a larger space in 2013 and there is so much to do to new space. The money if we win will really help.

Vanity tables

I am sure you have seen the two paintings at the bottom-- one of Madame de Pompadour and the other by Boucher titled The Milliner.  I saw the pink Miles Redd chinoiserie style vanity table/powder room on the Chinoiserie Chic blog last week and loved it.
That got me thinking about some other photos I have of items that may have been on a woman't vanity table. Women of the nobility used the time at their vanity tables to meet with people, choose clothing items, seduce and gossip. It was a setting that usually showed a woman's best attributes. Even 200 years later we still have the feminine vanity table. Some of the items on it are different but idea and the prettiness of it endures.

I'm so pretty

Miss Souffle-Marie is my observant cat--she sniffs and inspects everything. We just bought this mirror for the powder room and she had to be first to check it out. Then she seemed to enjoy looking at herself.
Souffle-Marie is from Good Mews no kill cat shelter. She is a sweet, shy soul.  She likes a quiet house with birds to watch and soft spots for sleeping. She has to enjoy the mirror now --when we put it up she won't be able to see herself.

Temps Passes

In times past the items pictured above would have been part of a lady's daily life. Gloves, bien sur, and a hankie very necessary. The small inkwell could even be part of a lady's travel items.
The vintage nosegay with the tiny cameo and hand died silk ribbons would have been a gift from an admirer or a token from a father to a daughter going off to a ball. In the language of flowers violets meant love and faithfulness.

The handmade sachet was/is a small treasure most ladies loved to have tucked away with fine linens or lingerie. The  violet nosegay is made of vintage millinery flowers and silk ribbons. I wonder who carried this treasure to a dance?
It is fun collecting all these things and fun imagining how they touched the life of someone before they came to me. I am searching for old dance cards now to complete my little imaginary dance. It feels so Jane Austen!
