Garden thoughts for 2015

These are two plants I want to add for next spring. One is Princess Alexandra clematis top photo, other is Princess Blush verbena everyone seems to be sold out right now on line and at local garden shops.

Gardening is a lesson in patience, persistence and planning. All good life skills. I do a lot of planning because I limit my colors in  the garden to pinks and white and tiny bit of purple and I really try for soft blush pinks when possible. I am always learning about new varieties. 

I enjoy planning ahead in all areas makes life a lot less stressful-- I try and plan out vacations and holiday events as well as thinking ahead for garden.

Marietta Square Farmer's Market flowers

The Marietta Square Farmer's Market is back on every Saturday morning. I think it starts at 8 a.m. and goes till 12:00 noon. My favorite stall is the flower lady I try and get there any Saturday that I am not away. She has most wonderful fresh flowers that she grows herself and you can make your own arrangement for $10.00! I pretend that I am at a street market in Paris! 

I love my arrangement this week but forget what she said the pink flowers were. Does anyone know? Leave me a comment if you do. Merci

Mud pit is now a flower bed- Wow Us Wednesday

Last week when the landscaper men came a month early and dug up our lawn in the back garden I had a real mud pit--because it rained the next day.  We ran out and bought annuals just to fill it in and add some pink color! I have more peonies and iris on the way and foxgloves coming too. We planted for 2 days- all pink or white flowers. Cleome, foxgloves, speedwell, pin cushion flowers. It was a lot of work but I love it and we no longer have to worry about that patch of grass that will never grow. I had fun pretending I was Marie Anotinette creating her little farm gardens.Pink Boy was an excellent garden helper.

Lordy Miz Scarlett we are melting here!

The heat this summer has been extreme here in Atlanta area. Over 54 days of over 90 degrees ! About double the amount we normally have.

So I am taking a cooling break by looking at this photo. I love photos showing snow and blossoms. Don't you? It sure is soothing. Relax, deep breath, roll those shoulders , gaze upon the snow. Feel better?

In keeping with pinkness here are a few shots of my garden of flowers blooming right now. I always look for pink plants at the garden shops and in catalogs. I have a dahlia that is getting very big and I believe it will open to a pink flower. It is the first year for me growing a dahlia.

My favorite color for roses has always been pink- especially the soft pinks. they seem to settle into the garden better and look so lovely in moonlight. We added more blush Knockout roses this year.I have New Dawn and Mortimer Sackler (also a pink climber) climbers too.

The lavender is waist high and smells so clean when you brush against it. The top is Pentas an annual, Mortimer Sackler, pink Yarrow and pink Astilbe. The last two are perennials.
