Another Dresden inkwell

I am hooked on inkwells and have added a few more to my collection. I am placing them all around my house since I only have the one pretty desk in master bedroom. This last one came from Switzerland--another EBay find. So fun to discover them and read about them and about the Dresden porcelain factory.

Show and Tell Friday and asking for help

Help!!

I have fallen in love with this compote or tea cookie tray. I have seen a few photos of it over the years and have never seen it in person. Replacements china and silver matching service is not sure of the name of the pattern and they do not have it.

Post Script
A lovely Japanese blogger has come to my rescue and told me the plate is Dresden by Carl Thieme. I will search for it on the internet. It was made for Marie Antoinette she says

Merci Pink Rose!

If anyone knows what pattern this is and if you ever see one please email me through this blog. It has my MA initials in the center of the piece so I think maybe originally it was made for Marie Antoinette's table. I also read awhile ago it may be Dresden and it may be by Carl Thieme that is all I have found out.

I saw it on a Japanese blog but I don't have any way of reading Japanese so I don't even know if the blogger knew what it was or if she owns it. I love my MA monogram and would love to buy this piece. I think it is tiny only 5 inches or so tall.

I leave it to you pink lovers

Pink marshmallows bien sur!

Pink dot bags are fun with pink ribbon

Dust pan first with confectioners sugar or it won't release!
Happy Pink Saturday!

I actually made these for Christmas for giving and for us to enjoy with hot chocolate. I was watching Ina Garten one day and she made some (not pink) and I was inspired

They are fairly easy to make. Little ones helping must be careful the corn syrup gets very hot!

I am going to make more for Easter to put in baskets with some coco mix.

Ina's Homemade Marshmallow

3 packages unflavored gelatin
1 1/2 cups sugar

1 cup light corn syrup

1/4 kosher salt

1 Tablespoon good vanilla extract ( or rose flavoring, or even mint flavor)

pink food coloring or any pastel looks pretty

Confectioners sugar for dusting

Combine gelatin and 1/2 cup of cold water in the bowl of mixer using a whisk attachment allowing it to sit while you make the syrup

Combine sugar, corn syrup, salt and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves . Raise the heat up high and cook until the syrup reaches 240 F degrees on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat.

Mixer on low slowly pour the sugar syrup into the dissolved gelatin . Whip until mixture is very thick ( about 15 minutes) add flavoring and coloring. Place in big glass or Pyrex pan allow to dry uncovered overnight. I dusted the pan first with confectioners sugar. Cut squares with a warm knife and make sure they are lightly dusted all over with confectioners sugar so they don't stick together. Bag and share! They are SOOOO much nicer than store bought ones. Enjoy! This is a very European style of treat they have them in all flavors in candy shops in Paris.

A wonder from the age of Marie Antoinette

This wonderful object is in the Academy of Sciences in France. It was created by two Germans and presented to Marie Antoinette in 1785 and she realized what an innovative work it was ( automatons were popular and novel at that time) and placed it in the Science Academy.

The figure is reported to be a likeness of her and the object she is playing is a tympanum.

Thanks to Catherine Delors for posting this on her blog last year.

French give away at A La Parisienne

The so,so very talented blogger Mandy of A La Parisienne is having a wonderful give away to celebrate her featured article in this month's Romantic Homes magazine. She hosted a little fete inspired by Laduree awhile ago and that is the article in this month's Romantic Homes.

It is a super generous give away so go on over and enjoy her luscious blog and leave a comment to enter.

I am going to order some French looking menu cards from her and I have ordered things in the past and been very happy with them. She has romance in her soul and is ( like me) French inher heart I believe!

Marie Antoinette Valentine doll by Nicole West, Happy Pink Saturday

Doll is a one of a kind hand made work of art by Nicole West

Marie Antoinette

Nicole West has always wanted to be an artist. She is largely self taught. She sculpts in polymer clay and her creations sell on EBay and in private shops for very respectable sums.
When I discovered her this week on EBay it was a fluke that make me type in a search for "Marie Antoinette doll" and what a joy when I saw her work. Truly amazing and so clever-- the faces of her dolls look real, beautiful and seem to glow from within. I was not the happy bidder who will enjoy this version of Marie Antoinette but I now have a new goal-- to save for my own work of art from Miss West.

She has graciously allowed me to use her photos of her creation. Her work can be found on EBay.Enjoy!

I had the pleasure of hosting two of my favorite people for lunch last Sunday in honor of Valentine's Day ( hereafter referred to as Pinkatine Day) lunch. So of course I had to make it pink and there had to be heart desserts, little gifts and what I call girly food!

It was the first time I have been able to use my china that I received as a Pinkmas gift from my girls (my dogs and cats) they are such thought shoppers always finding pretties for Mama.( hmmm) It was fun to dress up the table, use my pretty silver Love Disarmed flatware, and the new little berry dishes for the fruit salad. I hope you enjoyed visiting my Pinkatine lunch.

A little courting never hurt anyone

Love is in the air!

Tabletop Tuesday link here

I love these Dresden figurines (this is a knock off- I am sure) depicting courting scenes and little bits of daily life of 18th century nobility. I think we should remember that it is fun to be courted--even those of us married for many years need to be courted sometimes.

The age seemed to lend itself to flirtation and courting and word play more than our modern era. I love that fans had a language and flowers too, word puns and dropped hankies also aided the flirtatious. So in the spirit of love and Valentine's Day I offer up these courting couples.

Cherry blossom hair ornaments? I think so
Happy Valentine's Day and Pink Saturday!

http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/

Sakura- Cherry Blossom in Japanese-- the Japanese have been celebrating the cherry blossom for centuries. Here are some lovely shots taken from tumblr and photo bucket I adore cherry blossoms and will someday get to Japan. It would be wonderful to go during cherry blossom festival time.

I also enjoy looking at the kimono many made with cherry blossom inspired fabrics. Happy Pinkatine's Day!

Love my lovely lamp

A new EBay treasure from a thrift shop just my colors

I am joining in on Show and Tell Friday at

I have bought many nice things on EBay-- it can be sort of addictive ( hmmm)
This lamp is a fun purchase and it looks so nice in my pink bedroom.

The shade didn't come with it and was almost more than the lamp.
It is sort of romantic for Valentine's time

These Dresden looking figurines are so fun. I know it is not an old one or very valuable but I still love it.

Sevres jar a Valentine gift from Pink Boy

Love the rose on the lid A Valentine Gift

Another EBay treasure Pink Boy found for me. It is a sauce pot-- although I do not understand that at all . It looks like a big jar to me. Whatever it is it is lovely and that wonderful shade of Pompadour pink. I always visit the Sevres display at the Met in New York when I go there and now I own a tiny bit of it (not nearly as old of course) for my pink home.

Sending love

My friends are my treasure. I am not rich- just rich in friendships and love. My only sadness is that most of my friends are not nearby. How I wish we could all be in the same area. Valentine's Day, to me, is letting my friends know how much I treasure them. Since they are all so sweet and loving I like to find a little sweetness to send to them. The cards come wrapped up in ribbons and it a gift to yourself to enjoy sending them.

Paulette of Paper Nosh creates the most wonderful Valentine cards --they feel very Marie Antoinette era, romantic and glittery. They are little works of art. I hope my friends like them. It was fun to write them out and put Love stamps on them. Tell your friends you love them especially now.
