Movie fans...

Adore the 2006 movie for the eye candy of it and the details. Here are some of the scenes with hand fans I am sure I missed some of them. The final fan has Marie Antoinette images on it. It is from a book I just got about the golden age of the fan from Louis XIV to Marie Antoinette.
Remember when Karl Lagerfeld carried a black fan everywhere not so very long ago? They are still used in burlesque acts I hear. Wish we could revive the art of making fans for fashion.

Elusive spring

Well, like most of the country we are still having a delayed Spring last night freezing temps again. So until Mother Nature decides to play nice I have to console myself with photos of Spring!

Fluttering history and art

More slices of history. The art on fans is amazing in the details and creativity ! The last fan of the cat's face is so wonderful , especially if you are a cat lover like I am, wish I could find one like that.
The dilemma of collecting fans is they are small and you want more! ha And often the fan frames that are fan shaped are hard to come by or very, very pricey. Someday I will find a sassy cat like one above I have faith in the fan gods!
Do any of you collect hand fans? I am a fan atick!

Collecting

I have fun with my little collections-- little things that link me to the past, to France, to a more gracious time. Lucky to get this latest inkwell. It is my only inkwell that has "little feet" so cute and cheerful. My Marie Antoinette figure and another inkwell, and a rubber Eiffel Tower erasure also share desk space.
Do you collect anything? Does it link you to another time? What motivates us to "collect"? Interesting questions to ponder.

Spring blossoms to chase away the grey

Rice flowers I need to get some of these! So pretty
I am officially over winter! For those of us in the South it has been a brutal winter. I have lost so many plants due to the ice and sub zero temps we had this year. I am very upset. It could be worse I guess and my walled in back garden is probably in better shape than many open gardens. All I know is that my creeping fig is a goner and I am ready for a Paris spring! Spring in Paris is enough to warm our hearts a little after this boring cold winter.

God is in the details

We have all heard that famous quote-- fittingly for this post it was said by architect Mies van der Rohe- but no where is it more evident than at Versailles, The details are amazing and were not only artistic but also a visual reminder that the King is the state and is  God's representative on earth. No matter how many times I see photos or visit Versailles and the grounds I am always enthralled by the details. We seem to have lost a lot of that" detailed"thinking and ability to make things with such attention to detail.
Therefore we must enjoy it and learn from it when we happen across it as you do often in European buildings, at historic properties, in museums, in fashion and in pastry.

China Cabinet redo

 My helper Snowflake Marie Mouser

Oops got another swan tureen had to move the pink rose one to the side
A friend spotted this great china cabinet at a local antiques mall. I had it delivered and it was an off white. Pink Boy repainted it for me in Annie Sloan white chalk paint no wax and it turned out well. He painted inside a pale pale pink on the back wood panel.
I needed more storage for my growing tureen collection I have 4 swan tureens plus my huge life size one.I think I am finished buying swan tureens. My other obsession is cabbage tureens and rabbit ones. So far no rabbit just a big cabbage one.
I think the china cabinet in the kitchen/family room area makes it cozier and now I can enjoy my tureens and other pretty vintage china.

Printemps a Paris

Oh how fun to be in Paris in Spring or anytime really. Spring would be wonderful full of lush floral displays and buckets of peonies outside florist shops. Someday I will visit in the Spring

Dreaming of gardens

Oh how I long for spring breezes and warmer days. I just discovered this last plant the white moonlight flower it is called.Never saw it before. I'm not sure what it is but I would like to try it.
My head is dancing with ideas for the new garden beds most in pink and white flowers and a few shrubs throw in for texture.
I would love to be in France for Easter to see the shop windows and what is blooming then.
