Highlands NC

 Burt Farm Cashiers show house

Cashiers show House  Burt Farm
Chocolate mousse in cream anglaise sauce
 Cute Highlands shop-Oakleaf

I've wanted to visit Highlands and Cashiers for a long time. It is only 3 and a half hour drive. We went up for a short visit to see the Cashiers showhouse at Burt Farm. It was lovely and large.
Dinner at Madison restaurant at Old Edwards Inn was very nice--  I loved the cream of onion soup and the dessert!
It was about 15 degrees cooler up there a welcome break from the heat here.  Hydrangeas were in full bloom all around town.
Can't wait to go back maybe in fall--that would be pretty. We saw Christmas tree farms too in Cashiers which is so close to Highlands.
Don't miss the chance to see the area if you are ever near it stunning views and fresh air.

Obsessions current and on going

Photos of chair Anita Pelayo Rivera check out her lovely blog above and
instagram at les_dames_dabord and
Pintrest too

 Meissen food warmer
Claire Pettibone ring

Summer is such a hard time to blog .
Not much going on and too hot and humid to do much outside. So I have been finding things on-line that I obsess about. I see something then research it and sometimes search for it or sometimes I am content with the new knowledge.
As you know, I love pink and green and those colors in jewelry form are so enticing! Love the ring above.
I continue to learn more about Meissen porcelains and found this photo of a food warmer. What an elegant way to heat up a snack!
The French chair above I found on Anita Pelayo Rivera's blog (see link above) and I adore it!!
So I will search flea markets and fairs and on-line auctions. It doesn't have to be an antique just have those correct proportions. I have learned in my ongoing study of French period furniture that proportions are everything
So many reproductions are too bulky or too high.
French furniture of that era was delicate, feminine and on the "small "side.
My swan and peony obsessions continue.
If I ever win the lottery I will buy property with a small pond so I can once again have pet swans.
What are you obsessed about?

I'm in love with ranunculus! Especially the pink ones. No surprise there. I have been reading about them they say they are easy to grow in spring and very prolific. I noticed them at Trader Joe's this spring and made many pretty                                             bouquets with them this year.
I am searching for seeds of these pink ones shown above.
Have you experience growing these?--if so do  tell me about it.

Meissen figurines

Meissen porcelains named after the German town started making white porcelain in 1710. They have always been of the highest quality.
I love the figurines with an Asian feel. Most of the ones pictured above are in museums. Meissen has always been fairly expensive and now it is out of reach for most of us. So we must be content to view it at the MET in NY or The Getty in  Los Angeles etc.
The colors are exquisite and the figurines are just charming.

Two sassy ladies have arrived

These two beauties have arrived!!

They were made by Sharon Mitchell of the web site Cloth Dolls with Attitude. They came all the way from New Zealand! The one with white hair is Marie Antoinette and the redhead is moi ! Ha
They are living in the master bedroom right now and will surely adorn the Marie Antoinette tree this year in some way.
I can't thank Sharon Mitchell enough for making them for me. I was going to make them myself but my sewing skills are not up to this level of stitchery.
They really are little works of art.

Check out her website she does some truly amazing dolls.
