Tea veilleuses were popular from 1700-1890's . The top comes off and a tea pot can be placed there and a candle kept the tea warm They were also sometimes used as nightlights.
I found this beauty on Ebay. She reminds me of Marie Antoinette and has a fan in her hand( I collect folding fans) a doggie and a pink rose a la Marie Antoinette--her favorite flower.
If you want to see a wonderful and varied collection you can visit the Teapot Museum in Trenton TN. see link : http://www.teapotcollection.com/teapot/home
Have a Pink day!
