Birds are a constant theme

 Griffin and Wong paper

I have been freshening up my formal living room last few months. Some new draperies, pillows and soon to reveal new chair upholstery. The chair in this photo is new too. I hated the lamp I had on that end table so I found the bird lamp in the Neiman's catalog on sale-- so it was an easy choice.
I love birds have bird, feed outside birds and like to decorate with touches of a bird motif. If I ever do the panels in the hallway I want to use the pink Griffon and Wong chinoiserie bird and peony paper!

Join Cindy at My Romantic Home hosting Show and Tell Friday

This is the fabric I chose for all my dining room chairs and table skirts. I love all the items shown in the fabric and it goes well with the red lacquer walls in my dining room.

It is fun to look at this colorful fabric daily and even at Christmas it blends well with all my holiday decorations.

A little sparkle

I think I was a bird in a former life! I am so interested in birds and envious of their freedom and their beautiful plumes. I have always had pet birds and usually at the zoo I gravitate toward the bird area. I am also bird -like in that I am always attracted to something that sparkles--diamonds and glitter come to mind right away.

My friend put this little ornament on a Christmas gift to me and I didn't have heart to put it away with ornaments for 11 months a year. So it is now hanging in master bath where I can enjoy it daily. Be good to yourself don't "save" things just for holidays. Use your pretty items in everyday life.

On a dull rainy day it is nice to have things about in the house that sparkle and brighten my home.

Pink hot chocolate on a cold, cold night

A dear friend sent me some pink hot chocolate. I will make it soon --it is only about 20 degrees here now. I didn't know hot chocolate came in pink !! See always finding new pink ways or things to make life fun.

When it is so cold and icky I try and bring some color into the house usually with flowers as I have done in the photo today. It is amazing that one can get almost any flower any time of year.

While checking out some new blogs I found an amazing person , Joy Gabler, who hand colors little paper birds--see above photo. I plan on buying some from her to use on packages, or on the pink and white Christmas tree or maybe just perch a few around the house on mirrors. She also adds some glitter and ribbons to them. Joy can be reached at verybunny@flash.net. I found this photo on Vingettes Antiques blog.

That is a sure way to brighten up a spot-- perch a glittery bird on top of a mirror. I think in Marie Antoinette's day she would have loved these birds--perhaps she used something like them in one of her towering head dresses. Some of the hair styles had full battle ships and live animals and women had to bend down to avoid hitting top of doorway!! When I think of that I am glad not to have been born then. Although the bounty of beauty during that time was astounding --when you look at the furniture and china and music and art in a way I would love to go back to that era. I will expand on these areas in future posts but right now I just want to stay warm and drink my PINK hot chocolate !
