I love to write on my monogramed letter paper.

The details and the hand painting are wonderful. This was well cared for in the past

My passions are so much a part of my life. I love to write letters to friends, I love my monogram, I love the style of the decorative arts in the era of Madame de Pompadour and Marie Antoinette and I try and incorporate this style into my life.

I recently became aware of the inkwell-- a necessary implement in times past and one that could be so beautiful and so functional. I knew they existed but had never looked at them as decorative objects until I was reading about the decorative arts of that romantic era.

I am now collecting them in a small way some are more expensive than others but all are lovely.

I take such pleasure in using these old items and wondering who had them before they came to me and if previous owners enjoyed it and treasured it as I do now. I have my photos of Marie Antoinette and Madame de Pompadour there to inspire me. I just wish I could write in calligraphy ( I took a class I was awful ) like they did so long ago.

It is fun to sit in my boudoir and write to loved ones and look at the garden through the French doors. Usually one of my cats sits in the chair next to the desk and advises me as I write.

Welcome Souffle-Marie another kitty baby joins us

When this sweet, calm 5 year old female Himalayan came into the shelter last week I just instantly knew I would take her home. She was first with an older couple and the wife died and she came into Good Mews before I volunteered there. She was adopted out quickly (she is friendly and quiet) and all went well until the woman's grandchild moved in and then this pretty girl was not happy with a youngster around.
My other two cats are sweet and laid back and I knew they would be fine with just one more sister. Good Mews is a wonderful place to adopt a loving cat. They just got a grant from Doris Day animal foundation but donations are always welocme.

I named her Souffle-Marie since she is light and airy and sweet like a perfect souffle.We love her already. She fits into our pink world.

I am in love with Madison Georgia. I think I mentioned this before. Such a charming and historic town. Cute shops, friendly folks. And they have a real honest-to- goodness tea room!! Right on the town square.

I wanted to post this long ago but the laptop crashed and I thought all my December photos were lost (silly me- I did not back them up) but alas , they are still here on my new hard drive and I am finally getting to this post.

Madison Tea Room is run and owned by the knowledgeable and fun Kathi Russell. She has owned tea rooms before and she knows her way around a tea pot. This tea room provides a full tea or a small tray of goodies and the servers pour from silver pots coming around to see if your cup is in need of filling.

The day I visited there were two men from the town having tea-- as Ms. Russell said," The two bravest men in Madison." ha They loved it and said they will return.

I could not eat all my little savories and sweets. The chicken salad is divine, the tea is hot and the service is proper yet friendly and the decor is charming. Ms. Russell plans on hosting small parties, weddings and other celebrations in her ample back room that overlooks the back garden.

Tea is the elixir that soothes are souls, buoys our spirits and bonds us to our friends.

If you are in the neighborhood make sure to enjoy the bounty of the Madison Tea Room.

One blue and one green eye gaze at me from behind a branch

Snowflake-Marie likes to sit by the vase with the cherry blossoms and wait in the window for things to happen-- birds to cross in front, people coming up the path, kids in the street on bikes all are fun little moments in her day. Cats like to wait-- we could learn from that --I try not to rush around so much. She has taught me a lot about waiting happily for things to unfold. She waited two years to come to her forever home.

Time spent with a good book and cats is never wasted

That quote is on the wall at the no-kill cat shelter where I volunteer (Good Mews) and where Miss Snowflake-Marie Mouser lived for two years until we found each other. I am besotted with her. She is so loving and cute and pink and white.

These cold January days have me spending time indoors with good books, tea and my wonderful animal family. No I was not including Pink Boy in that!

I just began reading this wonderful book about Versailles it has amazing photos and lots of trivia. Alon's Bakery in Dunwoody makes good macaron I like the rose or raspberry ones best with a spot of my Marie Antoinette tea in my monogrammed MA tea cups--such a fun little respite from a busy day! My laptop is still in hospital. Please bear with my infrequent posts.

While I wait for my laptop to be resurrected, I am reading a few books about her era. I am looking at Sevres porcelain on auction sites and trying to learn more about that. I love this painting of her. I have many fun posts planned for the next few weeks but until I can get my photos back in my laptop I am sort of stuck. If I have to be stuck I will use the time to learn.

Computer still sick

I am only able to post this message today-- no photos since all my photos are loaded into my computer. My computer has another virus! That is 2 in two weeks! It is at local repair shop. Dont't know when I will be back but I have some fun things in store when I am able to access photos.

I keep dreaming up pink posts and Paris posts . I have a new obsession too! I can't even get emails right now.

I have done many things with my monogram this past year- rubber stamps, a letter seal for sealing wax, tiles to use as trivets, an embosser, a needle pointed pillow you get the idea. And I'm still coming up with ideas.

Perhaps the most obvious is to use the monogram on china or linens or silver flatware. I am working on those things as well. My first venture into monogramming on linens turned out so well. They have made a linen die for me from my monogram and later on when I purchase more guest towels, or bed linens I can monogram those as well.

Shh... I am going to share my monogram source for linens-- it is in Savannah-- a most gracious and feminine city. I did this all via email. Number Four Eleven is the name of the shop on Whitaker Street in Savannah's historic area.

Bathing in the French style

I have always disliked my bath tub --tiles are ugly and white and plain

I mentioned this a few weeks ago to Pink Boy and said how I wish I could enclose the side of the tub with wood then embellish it with ornament from Do It Yourself Chic.

He agreed and had our friend make a covering for it I think it is some type of PVC so it will not warp or rot.

Then a double paining of Glidden Sweet Baby Girl semigloss paint.

I ordered the ornament from my old standby DIYC and they came in less than a week.

So on New Year's Day Pink Boy did the final step of adding the cherubs and swags.

Voila a bath fit for Marie Antoinette( we know she enjoyed her baths.

Total cost of project less than $100.00

My dear friend Becky in Colorado sends me amazing and lovely letters and cards and this year this wonderful Christmas gift of bowl and saucer. I am using it to keep jewelry in right now. I see it every morning as I get ready for the day.

"My girls" got me 9 Limoges plates in pink and gold they almost match the present from Becky!

I treasure them all and above all treasure my dear friend Becky who blesses me with her friendship, her creative spirit and her deep faith and dear heart.

Stupid virus people

I have been absent from blogging because my computer got another virus and it just cost me $240.00 to get it removed and get Malware installed. Many of these virus people are in Russia and then they want $47.00 to remove it from your computer after it is sick. It is all a scam This is the second time. I hope now my computer is finally protected. I do not wish the virus people a pink day I wish they would drop dead. New posts will be forthcoming shortly.

I am obsessed with wings this year they are everywhere!

Most of the birds are glass blown ones or glitter ones

I love the hummingbirds

We always have a small tree in the kitchen. The one we usually put up sits on the floor and is a garden themed tree, but my mother in law lives with us now and that tree is sort of hard to get around so we decided to put a smaller tree on the breakfast table.

I found this wonderful PINK Barbie tree on eBay a few years ago and just held on to it. Now it is our bird tree-- we can see a lot of birds from our breakfast/family room area. Right now we see chickadees and blue birds and cardinals a lot. We love birds and love watching them.

This is the second year I have had a Marie Antoinette inspired tree in the master bedroom. Last year I had pink glass balls on it and this year I added more glitter ornaments. The sleigh is new. We know that Marie Antoinette enjoyed riding in a sleigh on the grounds of Versailles. The little glitter carriages I found last year and bought all that the shop had. The rest of the ornaments came from Michael's!

There are sprays of pearls at the top of the tree and a lamb with a ribbon lead( just like she had at her mini farm Le Hameau) under the tree.

Of course, in her time, there were no decorated trees it was more of a strictly religious holiday.

I used to make my own and mine looked like a real log with dark frosting that I ran a fork over and a bump for a branch and it had chocolate mousse inside and I dusted it with snow sugar.

These are the yule logs of top French chefs in Paris. Some are very original. I am sure they all taste divine. Wouldn't you like to go sample them all in Paris this year?

My fall potager is full of herbs and lettuces. I leave the gaura in the middle all year it comes back in spring full of pretty pink flowers. We are letting the other bed rest and will plant that one with tomatoes in spring. The top bed will remain herbs and lettuces for easy picking at dinner time.

We added a mirror on the patio. I think it looks good and I can check my lipstick !

This was one of my 'projects' this year. I bought the red sleigh last December. As soon as I saw it in the window I knew what I would do with it.

First we painted it pale, pale pink. Then we painted the runners gold. When I say we I mean Pink Boy did I just have the ideas he has the skills and the muscles!

Then I ordered embellishments from Do It Yourself Chic. They arrived in about a week. We spray painted them white, then sprayed white glitter on top and measured and attached them with gorilla glue. It is so important to lay them out on something flat first get the design then measure the area and make sure you know where they are going you only have 30 seconds till the glue sets up.

This pink Marie Antoinette style sleigh will go next to the big pink and white swan tree and I will use it to hold presents. It was a fun project and not that expensive. research tells us Marie Antoinette enjoyed sleigh rides in winter at Versailles. Her sleigh was probably a lot more ornate.

Angelic dessert party

Our dessert party was fun. I envisioned a dreamy table, so I purchased an inexpensive white tablecloth from Home Goods and then bought 10 yards of pale pink tulle and swirled that around the table. I added yummy scented candles ( scent was sugar cookie!) and pale pink ornaments and pink roses.

The angel is a garden statue and she holds my pearl rosary.

I made a few things and bought the rest at local French Bakery. I made my pink punch and we served a dessert wine.

Any party can be fun and creative using inexpensive items to create your dream table scape.

My imagination is soaring this holiday season! I am loving all the wings and white that I see around me. Our home is decorated with more pink and white than ever before. I am craving softness, feathers, sparkle, pearls, and always Pink!

A dream come true for Christmas

Table Top Tuesday

One of my dreams came true when I visited Madison, Georgia last Sunday. Not only did the town charm me and the shops entice me but we found my dream of a silver tea service in a local shop!

I have long dreamt of owning one and either find them too expensive, too damaged, or just ugly. This one is in excellent condition and has a pleasing shape and a lovely tray! I really lucked out.
Pink Boy saw that I was coveting it and said, "Merry Pinkmas a bit early." and he bought it for me! I polished it up a bit more but it is really dreamy. I am sure we will enjoy it for years to come.

Years ago I started to make my own holiday greeting cards. I always use an image I have photographed or an image by an artist that made something for me. I love the Crane card stock and pale pink envelopes. I usually try to make the image and the verse relate to each other.

This year's card is of my front door swag that I made last year. I used my new pink and white letter caddy that Pink Boy painted and embellished. It used to be red and green when I bought it at Tuesday Morning. Now it is Pinked and so pretty. Glitter pens in silver and gold also make it festive. All these extra touches make the task of addressing envelopes fun. I even made my own postage.

Swan tree topper

While watching the HGTV show about decorating The White House they showed the work of James Lutke--he made all the bird tree toppers out of natural materials like moss and plant parts for some of the trees in 2010.

I tracked him down and he made me a swan tree topper. He ended up making it out of wire, paper mache and glitter and glue. It is wonderful and eye catching. It is the perfect topper for my largest tree in the front room that is covered in all pink ornaments and Kurt Adler resin swans from 1990's/ I treasure each swan and a few have had minor surgery on their opened wings.

Madison Georgia is a wonderful small town with so much going for it.

I love garden shops and Madison's Le Petit Jardin does not disappoint.

It has floral, plants, signs, some furniture, glass garden houses, statues. Prices range from $3- up . I found things were well priced and some unusual items you do not see everywhere. The do weddings and events and feature European floral design.

It is charming and pretty just like the town itself. The staff is warm and friendly.

Paris and angel hair

I am finished decorating--I say that every day and then do some more. This is my homage to Paris-- I wish I could be there at Christmas time--someday I will.

I discovered this new to me product at Target- Twinkle Trim it is like angel hair but no glass safe and non toxic. I have used it in the little dome and on two of my trees. I love it! So when I look at this little cloche and squint up my eyes and dream I am in Paris for a brief instant... yes, yes I am.

Migraines are such a pain--pun intended. Even though I know the triggers sometimes I cannot prevent one. I think if I have to take the migraine pills I may as well make it pretty. A Holiday find at Home Goods

I found this small iron sleigh at Home Goods last month. They only had one. I brought it home and it will go beside the front door under the overhang so it will be protected from rain and snow.

In my mind swans and ballet are linked. I always think the ballerina's look like swans. Cool and serene on top white their legs carry them across the stage in a sort of glide or slow leap. Tutus look like layered feathers to me. Perhaps each swan was a former dancer in another life?

I am already buying more Christmas decorations and of course they are pink. I have a few pink things to share with you as we get closer to the holidays. These pink birds caught my eye and I set them out to enjoy before I put up the trees.

If you are a long time reader of my blog you know how pink it gets at our house for Christmas.It will be ever pinker this year! Some big and some small things pink coming our way. I can't wait to show you. Pink Boy has been so busy helping me with my pink projects. I have the ideas and he has the muscle and skills to execute them.

The roses are from Costco they have the best roses always so fresh, inexpensive and you get 18 usually instead of 12. They usually last a week!

Just a little bit of iron lace to look at today. I love metal twisted into pretty shapes. It is partly reason I think Paris so lovely--all those balconies and railings and stair railings in curved shapes. Take time to look for pretty details.

This was last Thanksgiving at our home. We had fun and I used all my autum hued table top items from Home Goods and my French table linens in bright colors and a bunch of flowers from Publix for the centerpiece. Little Lola was allowed to say her prayer then banished from the table.

Shakespeare and Company Paris

Last time we were in Paris we went over to Notre Dame early one night and walked around it. That was fun. Then we dined at a good little bistro right next door to Shakespeare and Company bookshop. It is a famous book shop and you can get the details here:

It was recently featured in the movie Midnight in Paris and on a late night talk show. I always want to go there when it is rainy in Paris or chilly. Nothing so comforting as sitting in a bookshop reading when rain falls outside.

I love going up to Adairsville it is only about 50 minutes from my house. We went up for a Sunday lunch. Walking around the resort after lunch was fun. Still some roses in bloom. The fall leaves are stunning. So crisp and sunny it was a perfect autumn day.

Chanel- biography

This is perfection

I think I have read just about every biography on Chanel. This one is, by far, the most comprehensive, has new material and great photos I had not seen before. It is an easy read and fun. She was a complex woman and an astute business person.

The necklace caught my eye. How I would love to have it recreated, with fake stones of course, it is a classic like so many things she created. She could think outside the box. There were reoccurring images in her life that she used maybe unconsciously and this book talks about that and I had never really learned that before. The famous CC logo --Picardie has several theories about that.Chanel by Justine Picardie read it!

Halloween treats a la Martha Stewart

I got this idea from the Martha Stewart Halloween magazine. She sure loves this holiday. She made them with chocolate madeleines but I opted for brownies without nuts and I fixed the marshmallow skulls on with a bit of chocolate icing. The eyes and nose in skulls are black frosting i put on with a toothpick and actually made a hole.
The mouth is a cut and you cut the sides of the big marshmallow with scissors to give it a skull shape. I gave these treats to the neighbor kids, postal carrier etc. We do candy on trick or treat night but these were extra.
I think the treating time should always fall on the Saturday closest to October 31 it would make life easier and who wants to go out on a school night?

I have been thinking about redecorating the formal living room. I think this is the look I will try to achieve. Beige and gold with hints of pink. I will never give up my Aubusson needlepoint area rug but it already has those colors so making the sofas more neutral and just color on silk drapery and 2 chairs should be enough and be more soothing. Is it because I am getting older that I want to have a calmer space? I will keep my eye open for more photos that have the "look" I want. Maybe Pink Boy will say go ahead next year to redoing ! Just added some new tea cups and another cake plate to my collection.

I just got these sweet tea cups at a local antiques shop-High Cottage in Marietta.

I love cake plates and use them a lot for creating height in a table scape, showing things off on the sideboard and for serving of course.

I love these sweet peas from Botanical Interests--they have a great web site. I plant sweet peas every year and I also bought these perennial ones and they do come back year after year.

I love this time of year. I love all the fall colors and the crisp air. It is a very productive time for me. I always start new projects in the fall.

But--I like a pinkish fall I still have pink mums and pink dahlias around the garden and I planted some pink snapdragons and pink and green ornamental cabbages too.

Halloween is coming the ghosts are getting fat

This is my centerpiece for dining room table. I mad eit with my glue gun. I can reuse it since the big pumpkin is fake. We will also use it when we hand out candy I will put it outside by the front door where we stand.

It is time to work on Halloween costumes--we love to dress up.The neighbor kids get a kick out of the dressing up and the fog machine and spooky music.

Hot Chocolate and Versailles

One of my favorite ways to spend a day!
What could be more fun than visiting the most wonderful chateau, shopping in the gift shop, shopping at Laduree and then having tea (or hot chocolate) at Angelina tea salon right on grounds of Versailles? um Nothing!

Angelina now has a tea salon there and it is open to guests of the chateau only--so not too crowded. I like one at rue Rivoli too but it can be a zoo sometimes.

Those are favorite things to do when visiting Versailles.

another tip--flat shoes and a plan of where to go and preferably 3 days to visit to see everything. The town is delightful too.

I love white in the garden almost as much as I love pink there. The fall ornamental cabbages were in stock at the nursery so I did pots for the patio in white and grey with cabbages too.

Busy day today so just time for a quick tea on the patio with some nut bread warm from the oven.

Paris is a very rosey city! When I got home and looked at all the photos I took I realized how many had roses (pink ususally) in them. This is not counting the actual photos I snapped of roses in containers outside floral shops. Just a few samples above to prove my point.

I love the iron roses on the gate! What a visual treat that is. I forget where that photo came from I think I found it on tumblr.

Hummingbird garden plants

The hummingbirds will soon leave us. I love watching them. Sometimes we have so many at once it can be dizzying to watch!
Many visitors from the Audubon tour asked about the hummingbirds-- why we have so many. I think the secret is creating a food filled environment and one that feels safe to them. We are lucky to have an enclosed garden space.
The plants above also help attract them and I always put my feeders out early and keep them up till Dec. I make my own food 4 cups water to 1 of real sugar. As the time gets closer to their leaving I up it to 2 sugars to 4 of water.They need that extra jump in calories to fly the long distance.
Between the little birds and the flowers my garden is a busy spot at times. I marvel all the time at their rapid wings and hover abilities. Another little miracle that some people ignore or take for granted.

I just adore pink flowering plants. I search them out, buy from on line nurseries, ask gardeners about their pink plants. It is part of my pink living lifestyle to be surrounded by pink in just about any form.

I just got these three small potted heather plants at Trader Joe's to make an arrangment last Saturday. The nice thing is now I can go plant them in the garden. Heather plants like sun, a well drained soil and slightly acidic soil. They will look lovely mixed with other pink plantings.

I have been busy getting pillows made for the master bedroom. I really think of it as "my boudoir"-- a quiet place to read, sit with my cat on my lap, write letters, watch old movies while curled up in bed.

The mongramed needle point is new and the cross-stitched angel is something I did about 25 years ago stuck in a box and forgot I made it. It turned out rather nice.

I don't have much time right now to enjoy my boudoir- we are in process of cleaning the attic and putting things in storage and moving my Pinkmom in law in with us and starting preparations for Christmas!

Chanel is always in my dreams and I love to try and recreate the same style using other clothing. Audubon Garden tour Show and Tell Friday-art by Ann Bailey

We were part of the Atlanta Audubon Society's garden sanctuary tour last Saturday. We had about 150 people come through our tiny garden-- we met so many lovely people and it was a perfect day for it weather wise. We were also so happy that our hummingbirds were active so everyone got to see many of them flying about and feeding on plants and feeders.

The Audubon Society arranged for a painter to paint in our garde while the tour was going on. The artist, Ann Bailey, painted our garden from her vantage point up on our little shaded hill in one corner.

My husband bought the oil painting which was a total surprise! Now we have our garden, complete with tiny hummingbird, in an oil painting that we will treasure always and remind us of the fun day we had with our visitors.

Ann paints portraits of people and animals and other scenes.

Audubon Garden Tour Sat September 10

The Atlanta Audubon Society has their annual bird sanctuary tour this Saturday September 10th. Our garden is part of the tour of six gardens/sanctuaries. It is a major fundraiser for the society and tickets for all 6 sites are $15.00

This is my favorite spot in Paris. Looking at the bridge's details always cheers me and I always find something new to admire. In the movie Gigi they pass these cherub lamp posts and I think that image stayed with me for as long as it took me to get to Paris in the 1980's!

Snowflake our white beauty

I am loved!

When my neighbor's cat (whom I was to adopt) did not come home I cried for weeks. I loved her. So I decided to adopt a white cat in her memory and I chose Snowflake from Good Mews no-kill cat shelter. Snowflake is a wonderful girl all happy and cuddly --a real lap cat. She loves to sleep right next to me holding on to my arm all night. She seems to know that this is her forever home now. She was born behind a school and lived her first 2 years at the shelter.

Now she is our pink and white baby to love forever!

I love fall clothing and this fall there is a lot of new/old looks to love. Dots and hounds tooth, black and white, Chanel chic and a touch of vinyl all are part of fall trends.

You don't have to do it all like Lady Gaga just a touch of the trend is perfect some houndstooth shoes with a black skirt or polka dot gloves.

Lady Gaga wears hounds tooth head to toe to make a big statement-- mere mortals like you and I must wear it in small accent pieces. She lives her life in a big pink way.
Chanel pumps covered in pearls are a delight-- have not found anyone who carries them and they aren't on Chanel web site either? Do they really exist? Take a bit of this and a few dots of that and be right on trend.
