Odette tutu one of my treasures!

I think I mentioned before that I have a real ballet tutu made by the costume designer of the former Cleveland Ballet. When I lived in Ohio I had her make me a real tutu that I wore to a costume party and to hand out treats.

Now that I have a dressmaker form I decided to find my tutu and put it out in master bedroom where I can enjoy it for awhile. I thought I lost the top part --it ended up in another closet from the bottom part.

I was too thin when I had this made ( due to dental surgery I couldn't eat or drink well for about 6 months) and it doesn't even fit a small dressmaker form!! I had to pin top on with a huge gap in the back. I think I was only 98 lbs then. Yikes!

Most people never see one up close- there are two pieces to the bottom -a mesh pantie attached to the layers of tutu. Best way I find to clean is to immerse the bottom of it in bathtub water with mild mild soap and air dry. The top is a corset really boned and very tight even when I was thinner!

I was supposed to be Odette in Swan Lake so all white. I picture myself soaring up in air on stage! ha It is a fantasy.

Swans in Pink Girl's life

I found this cute ornament at the Swan Coach House in Atlanta's Buckhead area. Swan Coach House is the gift shop and restaurant on the grounds of the Atlanta Historical Society. I love touring the Swan House ( Italianate home from 1920's) and the pretty gardens and then shopping at the Swan Coach House.

I can't wait to use this ornament till Christmas so I am putting her in my armoire where I will see her . I have a lot of swan ornaments and always on lookout for pretty ones.

Just another one of my passions-swans and swan items. I also loved it that there were swans at Petit Hameau at Versailles!

A kindred spirit in blog land!

I love being in the blogging world! I have so enriched my life by becoming a blogger.
I discovered a kindred spirit in the lady in Australia who writes the blog Chateau de Lille. Here is her link: http://chateaudelille.blogspot.com/2010/08/imagine-this.html#comment-form

Please visit her lovely blog --if you like my blog I believe you will enjoy hers as well. Maybe someday many of the bloggers will be able to meet in some middle of the world meeting spot!
The photo above is from her blog's side bar. I love that photo. Thanks to her blog I also have some shops I want to visit when I get to Australia someday!

Edith The Lonely Doll finds a new home with me!

Happy Pink Saturday and welcome to my very pink happy post!

As a child I was sort of reserved- - I am basically a shy person even now. My childhood consisted of reading a lot and playing with my dolls and a doll house I made out of an old steel bathroom cabinet. There were not a lot of kids to play with in my neighborhood so I retreated into my own world of play and imagination.

One of my favorite books is The Lonely Doll by Dare Wright. It is still in print. I wanted the Edith doll so much. Dare had purchased a Lenci felt doll and changed her and named her Edith and Edith had many adventures in her books all photographed in black and white by Dare herself. Dare, as I have read about her as an adult, had an odd life and was an enigma.

In 1997 a doll company called Haut Milton made 750 felt Edith dolls so very like the one in the books. I wanted one so badly. She wears pink gingham and the cover of the first book was a pink gingham cover also.

Well, finances in 1997 would not allow me to buy Edith and the 750 dolls quickly went to new homes. I even wrote years later to Haut Milton asking them to make a few more- -no answer.

I searched EBay and doll sites for her all the time. And a few weeks ago I found her !! A brand new in the box Edith!! A doll store owner bought two in 1997 and held on to this one to sell. I wanted her so much.

Everyday I would look at the web site photos. I mentioned this to Pink Boy and he just laughed at me, "No way would I ever pay that much for a doll!" Edith has gone way up, up in price like a blue chip stock!! I was contemplating calling the doll shop and asking if I could put her on layaway and pay her off very slowly.

A few days ago Pink Boy said he had my anniversary gift early and no place to store it--too big he said. He asked do I want it early? I said OK. The box when he brought it in was not so big --"Oh, I misjudged the size" says Pink Boy. I thought it was an Ipad in a big box. It was Edith nestled in her pink gingham box!! I have cried so much no tears left.
I am so,so happy to have her finally after all these years. I will treasure her forever. What a wonderful gift!

Oh how I wish I could live here

My favorite fairy tale as a child and actually still was Sleeping Beauty. It is also my favorite ballet.

When I saw this photo I immediately thought of it as Sleeping Beauty's castle covered in roses. Pink roses!! And it is in the French countryside bien sur, how could it be more perfect?

Come on and spend a few minutes in your favorite fairy tale --it is so refreshing to escape via your inner child isn't it?

Sydney-Marie is all dressed up waiting for her beau to visit! She hopes he brings her a rose like he did last time! She wears her tutu and flirts shamelessly!!

She is already planning her Halloween costume and she hopes Santa brings her another fetching, frilly outfit as a present. She adores being a girly girl.

Lordy Miz Scarlett we are melting here!

The heat this summer has been extreme here in Atlanta area. Over 54 days of over 90 degrees ! About double the amount we normally have.

So I am taking a cooling break by looking at this photo. I love photos showing snow and blossoms. Don't you? It sure is soothing. Relax, deep breath, roll those shoulders , gaze upon the snow. Feel better?

A Gift Wrapped Life --mine is PINK!

This fabulous gift was wrapped by Sande Chase of A Gift Wrapped Life. I adore pink and grey and throw in that Paris motif and I am hooked!

Link here:

The paper is so pretty I would not care what was inside! Sometimes I just love to wrap the gift so much I wrap it really early then I forget what it is or the sticky tag falls off and I have to rewrap it again! Duh

I always stock up on paper when I see pretty paper. Saves time when I really need to get a gift out quickly. I find that being organized and well stocked saves me time and stress later on.

A visit to Chanel's apartment 31 rue Cambon

Since yesterday was Coco Chanel's birthday I thought I'd show you her apartment. It has been preserved. She slept at the Ritz but kept the 4 story apartment at 31 rue Cambon with first floor taken up by the shop and then the apartment, couture level and the workroom on top.

She was ahead of her time in home decor also, using screens and many symbolic images. She was superstitious and had lions (her astrological sign) and wheat, a symbol of prosperity, around the apartment. The mirror in the entry is the exact shape of the top of the stopper on Chanel No. 5 !

Her suede beige sofa was very innovative and her apartment continues to inspire Chanel designers and their ad campaigns. The birdcage above was the inspiration for the ad of model Vanessa Paradiso swinging in a bird cage

To view interior tour filmed by Chanel News the making of a commercial hit this link below:

Before she left the Ritz she would let her staff know she was going to the apartment and the staff would spray Chanel No. 5 in the apartment's entry way. Attention to detail, non?
The lamps on the demi-lune table are so today ! All the items around the apartment have become classics of design. NPR radio also did a tour of the apartment a few years ago check it out online.
The sofa in the top picture was not one she owned but became so famous from the photo that it was purchased and placed in the apartment. Mademoiselle Chanel hated doors and used antique screens as backdrops and faux doorways. Another ahead of its time decorating idea.

Happy Birthday Coco Chanel

Today is her birthday. She came from humble beginnings and changed the way the world views fashion. She invented comfortable clothing for women and freed them of the corset. She invented the most famous perfume-- Chanel No. 5 in the iconic bottle.

She is also another Leo I like. She had what, we in the South call, gumption! I love Chanel quilted bags and totes. The pink bag above keeps calling my name. Fashion photo French Vogue 2010. Happy Birthday Coco Chanel.

Chickens and roses--is that a band?

This photo is so wonderful! I love chickens and roses and together equals bliss! I recall that Eva Gabor used to raise chickens in Beverly Hills! Isn't it funny that she then stared on Green Acres? Life is strange. . .

I would love to have my own chickens to mingle among the roses and peonies in my garden. Fresh eggs are a bonus.

Well, I am off to buy that one lottery ticket I allow myself weekly-- maybe my dream of chickens and roses and a small farm will happen if I ever win.
I am all about the pretty and of course my chickens would have a wonderful cute coop maybe with pink fabric at the little windows.

Bird cages--paint them white!!

My continuing fascination with all white with just a touch of color is so invigorating. I loved this photo of the all white cages in the garden. I keep spray painting things white.

Antique market is on the agenda for Saturday-- I won;t be able to walk entire thing but it will still be fun. I am looking for fancy bird cages that I can spray paint white. I found one so far.

Maybe I am so attracted to white right now because it is fresh and symbolizes a fresh start. Since I am job hunting I sort of identify with that I am ready for a fresh start also.

French blue in a pink world

Bonjour ! I am recovering nicely from my foot surgery and am back to blogging.

I thought you might like to see my birthday gift from Pink Boy.

It is a lovely lantern for outside on the patio. It was not wired and Pink Boy wired it but I still use candles in it too. I love this shade of blue we also have wall sconces that match this. I like the French blue on the grey house exterior. I love to sit outside in evening with all my candles on all around the patio so cozy and romantic.

Power of positive pink thinking!

I am dreaming of some pampering. After foot surgery a pedicure is needed but I must wait till my doctor says ok.

So in the meantime I will hold this image in my head and send positive thoughts to my body to heal well and quickly. I do so believe in power of positive thinking-- especially relating to the mind/body connection.

And what could be more positive than the pampering going on in the photo above!! The photo is a fresh take on the one from the recent Marie Antoinette movie scene. Love all the pinkness going on.

Girl friends are special

Girl friends are one of life's best bits. How I would love to have all my friends together for a nice chat! With friends scattered all over the country it is often hard to plan a get together!

I loved this Vogue (USA) photo of two stylish girlfriends having a chat. Call your best friends today and tell them how special they are!

Bridal magazines are a favorite. I love to see the gowns and rings and pretty pink things. I also love the china they often show. I am happy to see more color in bridal gowns and many times the color is PINK!

On a hot summer day I will dream away the hours looking at magazines. I thought this "bridal gown" by YSL was such a clever end to a couture show.

What do you think?

Pink baby Emma Kate and her tutu too

Our sweet neighbors had their first child recently --Emma Kate. She is adorable. This is the birth announcement-- another PINK GIRL like me!! A tutu too! What is it about babies and tutus? I saw the cutest baby swinsuit at Target all pink and a tutu attached to it. A bit large for baby Emma right now.

The company that makes the announcements is called tiny prints-- and it looks like you order and do it all online no need to go into a shop after having your baby!

Her mom likes her in pink and she is a dainty little creature. I am thrilled to have a new baby pink girl in the neighborhood!!

It will be fun watching her grown up pink!

Happy Birf me!!

No, I am not losing it! Today is my birthday and I love my birthday. I like that it usually rains on my birthday and I like opening gifts and eating cakey. This year I hope I get a lemon cakey from a bakery in Atlanta. They only make it during the summer. It is sinfully good.

I read somewhere years ago about a little boy who sang to himself on his birthday. He was very young and all he could really say was "Happy birf me!" and that says it all. So now that is what I sing and no matter how old I will live to be I will sing my little "Happy birf me" song, because life is a gift and I am grateful for every day and I have so many, many blessings and my pink life is a very happy life.
It is also Pink Saturday so please click on How Sweet the Sound to the right and visit other blogs with a PINK post! Leave a comment if you can everyone loves comments!

More wishes for birthday or winning lottery

I love bows- another Southern thing. Stand still long enough and I will either spray paint you white, put a bow on you or both!

To amuse myself, while stuck here in bed recovering, I am pretending I could go on a shopping spree for my birthday! The sky's the limit. The bow boots are Valentino and something I would buy for sure, shoes too are a fantasy purchase. Am I focused on foot wear because I just had foot surgery?

My other fantasy wish is for a tiny farm in California with my animals and roses and a house and a barn all white with pale pink accents white floors and lots of sunlight. It doesn't exist except in my mind. All fun things to dream about.

Paper Nosh's Paulette is a magical person

I ordered one of Paulette's new items --a box full of Marie Antoinette gift tags. Some are of Marie Antoinette and some are of a cake. The details are fantastic. Lots of sparkly bits.

The box is special as are the tags. Everything she does is perfection. And a lot of it is pink perfection! It is a gift just opening the package. The box is meant to be saved and used again to hold love letters or other treasures. I have ideas rolling around in my PINK brain of how to use these tags.

Visit Paulette Pink Paperies the link is to the right. You will be amazed.

Another obsession of the china variety!

I have found some more pink china I need to search out and find. I love this photo from the Ada and Darcy blog. I love mixing patterns like this and they are all pink but different enough to not be too matching. I love each plate!

I need a well paying job to support this china and silver flatware habit I have! It is a Southern thing lusting over china and silver. How fun it is to collect and then mix and plan tablescapes. If I can serve something pink that just is the best ever in my book.

ZZZZZzzzzzz ing in PINK!!

This is what I will envision today as the anesthesia works its magic. I love this photo-- it was in Martha Stewart's bridal magazine. Love the Audrey Hepburn quote I agree!

And when I awake from my "pink dream" I will be looking forward to coming home and resting in my pink boudoir and reading my favorite blogs.

I will be bed bound for one week. I will make good use of this time to organize photos, watch some DVDs, blog and plan some holiday fun.
